 Artist Statement

Born and raised in southern California and as a child I was heavily influenced by comic books, science fiction, fine art books, sword and sorcery genre, film, sports and beach culture. Southern California is a multicultural place with excellent weather and beautiful beaches. This diverse landscape has informed me and my art and influenced my style. I work primarily in the mediums of drawing, painting, and printmaking. My work conveys a sense of confidence and optimism. I’m particularly drawn to portraiture and enjoy capturing likeness, character, and emotion. I find there is a poetry in the human face. The majority of my work has an abstract quality to it which is a reflection of my style and how I see the world. I also have a love for creating various landscapes which include nature scenes, city sprawls, and urban settings but often with futuristic and otherworldly twists. Architectural buildings and structures can be emphasized and inserted into these landscapes as well. Another aspect to my work is the combination of portraiture and architecture into a singular abstracted image creating a mashup. My goal is to create works of art that evoke mystery and intrigue and that beckon the viewer to elicit narrative based on what they see.
